From Mudejar to regionalism

THE ARTISTIC TREASURES OF BAENA

The long history of the city is manifested in the artistic expressions that the different eras left in its most emblematic monuments.

Strolling through Baena is discovering the medieval urbanism of the Almedina neighbourhood; cross the gates of its ancient walls and let yourself be captivated by the landscapes that are discovered from the towers and walkways of its castle. The tour of its streets and squares will allow the visitor to learn about its historical evolution through art. From the Renaissance ancestral portals to the most unique examples of Andalusian regionalism, passing through interesting examples of civil baroque and the splendid family residences ordered to be built in the 19th century by the emerging agrarian bourgeoisie, Baena shows a monumental complex of singular importance.

Special mention deserves the multiple temples of the city whose volumes stand out in the urban landscape. They contain a true artistic compendium that ranges from the Flamboyant Gothic of Santa María la Mayor and San Bartolomé, with its splendid Plateresque grilles, to the Baroque of San Francisco, without leaving behind the superb Mudejar samples manifested in the coffered ceilings of Nuestra Señora of Guadalupe and the most delicate Italian Renaissance present in the church of the monastery of Madre de Dios.
